A High speed grounding switch is a special purpose grounding switch with a certain ability to make short-circuit current. After the grounding fault of the line is removed, the latent current of the faulty line is formed by the power supply of adjacent operating lines. By using a fast grounding switch to close, the latent current can be eliminated, and then the grounding switch can be quickly opened to ensure the successful automatic reclosing of the line.

Ordinary grounding switches are installed next to the isolation switches on both sides of the circuit breaker, only serving as grounding for both sides during circuit breaker maintenance; The fast grounding switch is configured on the side of the outgoing line isolation switch near the line of the outgoing circuit, and it has two functions:

(1) Capacitive current generated by electrostatic induction and inductive current generated by electromagnetic induction when switching parallel overhead lines;

(2) When the internal insulator of the casing experiences creepage or arcing, the fast grounding switch quickly grounds the main circuit and uses the circuit breaker to cut off the fault current.
